Maryland softball wins three out of four against Michigan State

After a rough couple of weeks, the Terps (11-13) bounced back in a large way defeating the Spartans (7-13) in three out of four games this weekend. Information technology's the start series win for Maryland since March 11-12 against Purdue.

Because of the projected atmospheric condition weather for Sunday, the Terps and the Spartans played a doubleheader on Fri, April 9.

In game one, Michigan Country earned its one and only win of the series two-0. For Maryland, sophomore bullpen Courtney Wyche pitched a complete game, with three strikeouts, iii walks and 1 wild pitch, but wasn't able to get the necessary run support. The Terps finished with five hits, but weren't able to string consecutive hits together to score runs. Junior showtime baseman Regan Kerr led Maryland going 2-3 with a single and a double.

Despite the lack of scoring, Maryland showed its prowess on the base paths with three stolen bases one from freshman middle fielder Jaeda McFarland, junior second baseman Taylor Okada and senior right fielder JoJo McRae.

Freshman pitcher Ashley Miller led the Spartans to victory with half-dozen strikeouts and no walks. The Spartans had a full of three hits, but were yet able to come up off with the win. Leadoff concoction, senior second baseman Catie Ladd went ane-3 with a single and scored a run off of a pass ball. Sophomore pinch runner Brooke Snyder scored the Spartans' second and concluding run.

In game two, Maryland came back with a potent win 9-1. Sophomore bullpen Trinity Schlotterbeck pitched the full v innings with two strikeouts and simply 1 walk and earned run. After their struggles in the get-go game, Maryland'south bats came alive led by McFarland who finished 3-3 with a double, a triple and an RBI. Okada also chipped in three RBI's, while Kerr tacked on 2 hits and two stolen bases.

Building its momentum from game two, Maryland defeated Michigan Land half dozen-1 in game iii. Senior pitcher Jennifer Brann was on burn limiting the Spartans to just ii hits. The Terps' speed on the base paths was axiomatic over again as the team finished with 5 stolen bases helping to set scoring opportunities. Freshman shortstop Michaela Jones hit a triple, while sophomore left fielder Campbell Kline added one as well.

Maryland's bats jumped on Miller early as she finished with only one strikeout and allowed four hits. The Spartans circled in sophomore pitcher Sarah Ladd and freshman bullpen Jala Wright to the mound following Miller's one inning appearance. Both of the Spartans hits came from inferior outset baseman Mackenzie Meech, only none of the other Spartans could solve Brann.

The final game of the serial was the virtually heady with Maryland earning a walk-off 5-4 victory. Brann picked up her third win of the season with three strikeouts, simply ane walk and no hits or runs in ii innings pitched. Jones led Maryland with a domicile run, while McFarland continued her hot series with a triple and 2 runs scored.

Later on Michigan State scored four runs in the opening iii innings, they were held scoreless the remainder of the game. Ladd got the loss with but one strikeout, 2 walks and three hits in three innings.

With some momentum Maryland will now to travel to Ann Arbor to face Michigan Apr 16-18. All four games volition be streamed on BTN+.
